Education and Certifications

Beyond Words Inc. in San Diego, CA is led by our Director and licensed speech pathologist, Thelma Garcia Long. Since obtaining her Masters’ degree in Speech-Language Pathology, Thelma has worked with children and adults in various settings (in-home based therapy, Family Health Centers of San Diego, and the Chula Vista and San Diego Unified School District). She has extensive knowledge about school-age diagnostics and treatment, including Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), evaluations and treatment for children and adolescents (ages 5-18) with a variety of communication disorders. Her experience with adults has included providing treatment in a rehabilitation program for individuals with acquired brain injury and other neurologically-based disorders.  Prior to pursuing a graduate degree in Speech Language Pathology, Thelma worked as an Academic Advisor for 5 years at San Diego State University.
